Abstract

|
A double blind placebo controlled study was carried out in 51 patients with perennial allergic rhinitis. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups, one active ingredient(loratadine, 25 patients) and the other placebo(26 patients).
Most major symptoms such as sneezing, nasal blowing, and nasal obstruction improved significantly, but anosmia and nasal itching improved insignificantly. Physical findings such as color of the turbinate, rhinorrhea character. turbinate swelling, and rhinorrhea amount improved insignificantly. No significant adverse reaction occurred during 4 weeks administration of loratadine.
It was suggested that loratadine might be an effective drug for management of perennial allergic rhinitis with relatively mild side effects.
